"Can you disprove god?" Failed argument.?

You can't prove him either. I get very annoyed when people use that argument. Negative proof fallacy I hear. You can't disprove santa claus and still people believe in him. You can't disprove Spongebob Squarepants, Barney, Big Bird, Harry Potter either. Why do people use this argument?
