How does a person live comfortably in a dry cabin?

My husband and I are moving to Alaska where he will be a state trooper there. We would like to live in a cabin; we're used to that. However, we are not accustomed to a dry cabin. Has anyone lived in a dry cabin before? What do you do about cooking, laundry and such? Please share your experiences with me!
