Ok, now am going gaga!! What is the product of soduim(Na) and chlorine(Cl2) Isnt it meant to b Nacl?

Am kinda thinking its Na2cl? but is there anything like that?? in the question it was written as Na(s)+Cl2(g)??? am really confused!
