Pleas help science project on the big bang?
I will try to give you a lucid, non religious explanation. An American astronomer called Edwin Hubble (who we named the space telescope for), discovered that the Universe was expanding, that is, groups of galaxies were all moving away from each other. Actually, Slipher had discovered the expansion some years earlier, but at that time, he didn't realize that what he called "nebulae" were actually galaxies. It was further discovered that the further we look from Earth, the faster those galaxies were receding. LeMaitre had the idea of looking at it in reverse i.e, time running backwards, with all the galaxies and matter rushing back together, and realized that at some time in the past, everything must have emerged from the same point. The theory has been refined and updated from time to time, but is still the best idea we have so far regarding the beginning of the Universe. Doubtless, it will be modified more and more in the years to come, but at least we are on the right lines. What actually happened at the Big Bang we can only speculate, and may never know. As to what caused it is even more mysterious and probably beyond our reach, other than to cite a "Creator", called what you will. It is important (though hard) to understand that the Universe is not expanding INTO anything, but that everything there is is expanding. I hope this simplifies things a little for you, and I hope you will continue your studies. Good luck.
